Spring Handicap (15 March 2009)

A far better day than last year with blazing sunshine and little wind rather than freezing and blowing a gale.  We had a good attendance from all age groups and disciplines. Now we just have to wait for the results on presentation night.

Chairman
Longbow Championships Saturday 18 April 2009

A bright breezy day with twelve of us at the line including a few recurve archers who decided to try the more traditional approach.  I think everyone had a great time shooting a Western and special thanks go to Richard for being Field Captain and to Ivor for taking some photographs.
Crécy Clout Shoot

We mustered on a very windy morning but the rain held off and it brightened up with the wind dropping just after we had finished.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the day even though we were shooting into the teeth of a "howling gale".  Both longbow and barebow recurve were represented.  Thanks go to Colin Hind for organising the shoot and his band of helpers for setting it all out and clearing away.  Thanks also to Ivor Hayes for the excellent photographs (look carefully and you can spot the arrows in flight).

Twilight Shoot (25 July 2009)

Dear All

Please see the final results for the Twilight shoot held on Saturday 25th July, I am sure that you all have a lovely time, I know that I did, I would like to pass on my thanks and gratitude to all of you that set up the field and then took it down at the end.

I would also like to convey a very big thank you to Colin Hind our host for the evening for organising yet another brilliant shoot, along with the good weather, not sure how Colin arranges the good weather 2 years in a row now, but a big thank you Colin especially from me.

School "Have a Go Day" (3 July 2009)

I am pleased to report that the school "have a go" was a complete  success. Sixty children from Birkbeck School in Bexley attended two shifts at  09:00 and 11:30am. All were excited and keen to shoot the bow.
Obviously, the pupils were selected from a pool of interested parties and no-one was dragged kicking and screaming to a place where they would rather not  be. On the whole the quality of bowmanship among these first-timers was astounding. Most shone, though some did not achieve their expectations.
I, unashamedly, gave LPA cards to those most adept (with permission from  the organiser) in the hope that they may drag their parents to a Saturday shoot and eventually join our growing Junior ranks.
Thanks go to Brian Walls, Carol Parkinson and, especially, Michael Kells for agreeing to represent LPA and act as support Trainers. Special thanks are due to Anita Baily who presided over the shoot as official Coach - her approach  and demeanour was excellent and without fault.
I view this event as a turning point in our history, simply because we now  change direction from an out-of-the-way recreational club for retired persons to a vibrant and growing competitive entity which now espouses training for youth in a serious and legal manner. In other words, a well rounded facility focusing upon Archery as a recreational, competitive and educational facility within the community. The last example being the way forward.

A changeable day with blustery winds but the shoot was well supported by 9 longbow archers including 2 ladies and a junior making their first attempt at a York.  Everyone put in a creditable performance considering the conditions, particularly welcome was the traditional sherry after the first 3 dozen arrows and cream scones at lunch (thanks to Barbara Williams).
Novelty Shoot – 26th September, 2009

The weather was really kind to us for the Novelty Shoot. Warm, but not too hot, sunny but with a light breeze to keep us all comfortable.

This year, instead of an Open Shoot, we kept it In-house, but made it more of a Have-a-go – open to all, even the newest of newcomers. In fact, we had two people there who had never shot before!   As usual, it was organised chaos – even more so, when the Organiser (me) realised she had left three of the target prizes at home!!!

We had a good turn-out, and from the comments, laughter and cursing that went on, everyone seemed to have had a great time.

I would like to say a big “thank-you” to everyone who worked so hard setting up the Field, while I kitted out the beginners, and especially to Richard, who did such a grand job devising and drawing all the Target faces!

Autumn Handicap  4th October 2009

It turned out to be a warm and pleasant day and a fairly well supported shoot.  A number of the more experienced archers appear to have stood down to give some of the newer members a chance - a number of whom had never shot 60 yards.  We shot an American and gave the targets a good hammering with mainly longbow and barebow, plus a compound and a couple of recurves.

Overall we had a great time and all await the result at presentation night once the records officer has applied all the handicaps and adjusted the scores.

Thanks to all who took part for your support.

Memorial Shoot (29 November 2009)

The memorial shoot is to commemorate Bruce Bolas and David Hammond both past members of the club.

Thanks to all those that ignored the forecasts of doom and supported the shoot, we had a slight drizzle for a few minutes in the middle but otherwise it was bright and dry.  Around a dozen archers were shooting the new format of a Short Metric and it went very well indeed.

Thanks to everyone who attended and helped to set out and clear the field.

Presentations 2009

This years presentations were quite well attended and special thanks go to Mark Constable (Lord Paramount) and to Paul Rooke, Mike Kells and Barbara Williams for organisation.
